TaxiGenius Fare Calculator
Pick a city, enter your trip distance and approximate travel time, and we will give you a rough fare estimate based on the published meter rate. The estimator covers all 20 cities we feature on TaxiGenius. The result is intended as a rough guide only - traffic, surcharges, tolls and driver discretion can all move the actual price.

How the estimator works
Most US and UK taxi meters use the same three components: a flag-drop (a fixed fee when you start the trip), a per-distance rate, and a per-minute waiting-time rate. The TaxiGenius estimator multiplies the distance and time you enter by the published meter rates for each city, adds the flag-drop and any default surcharge, and returns a fare estimate together with a likely range that accounts for the parts of the meter we cannot predict (random waiting time, exact route, tolls).
What is not included
- Tolls on bridges, tunnels or expressways. These vary by route and are passed through to the passenger.
- Tip. See our tipping guide.
- Airport pickup fees. Many airports add a small surcharge to the meter total.
- Time-of-day tariff differentials. UK Hackney tariffs vary by time of day; the estimator uses an average.
- Surge pricing. Licensed taxis do not surge, but holiday and snow emergency surcharges may apply in a few cities.
